Bearing Fruit for God’s Glory
John 15:1-11
July 19th, 2020

Firstly, Bearing Fruit requires The True Vine
• Jesus Christ is the True Vine, (The True Israel of God)
• The Father grafts us into Christ.
o Romans 11:17-24
o 1Corinthians.1:30

Secondly, Bearing Fruit requires the Wise Vinedresser
• The Vinedresser Inspects the Branches
• The Vinedresser Prunes the Branches
• The Vinedresser Grafts Branches in
• The Vinedresser Removes Dead Branches
o Matthew 7:17
o Galatians 5:22-23

Thirdly, Bearing Fruit requires Abiding
• Bearing Fruit is Impossible Apart from Abiding in Christ
• Bearing Fruit is Certain by Abiding in Christ
• 1) We must Abide in Christ’s Person
• 2) We must Abide in Christ’s Word
• 3) We must Abide in Christ’s Love
o Ephesians 3:14-16
o Romans 8:35-39
o John 13:34 with John 14:9

Fourthly, Bearing Fruit glorifies God
• Bearing Fruit is God’s Work in Us
• Bearing Fruit Reproduces Christ’s Image in Us
• Bearing Fruit Points others to Christ.

Questions for Thought & Discussion
1. One way that our salvation is illustrated in the New Testament, is by a Disciples/Branch being grafted into Christ, the True Vine.
• What must happen to us (branch) before we can be grafted into Christ?
• What reasons does God have for grafting us into Christ?

2. Having grafted us into Christ, our transformation into fruit bearing disciple/branches requires time and includes God’s pruning us to increase our bearing of fruit?
• What is it that God need to “prune-away” from us?
• Why can God not simply allow those things to remain?

3. Jesus calls us to Abide in Him, His Words and His Love, which requires us to both rest & persist. (The word carries both of those two meanings).
• What does it mean to rest in the truth that we are “in Christ”? (2Corinthians 5:17)
• What does it mean to persist in putting on the New man and putting off the Old man? (Colossians.3:1-11)

• What does it mean to rest in the truth of Christ’s Words abiding in you?
• What does it mean to persist in the truth of Christ’s Words abiding in you? (John 14:21)

• What does it mean to rest in the truth of Christ’s Love? (Eph.3:14-16. Rom.8:35-39)
• What does it mean to persist in the truth of Christ’s love?

• How does the commands to abide in Christ, His words, and His Love apply to you: what do you personally need to do in response to His command to abide in Him? Ask the Lord to show you what you need to do?
